Artwork

Posted 30/9/2014

During our Selby Ahoy topic we have been learning all about different jobs that people living in Selby used to have. We have looked at the sculptures around Selby also. In class we had a discussion about our families and friends and the local jobs that they do. We created some artwork to show these jobs. Some of us used oil pastels and others used water colours. Our fab artwork is displayed in our very own Art Gallery in our classroom - we think they're great!Local Jobs ArtworkLocal Jobs Artwork

The Mighty Zulu Nation

Posted 13/2/2014

On Tuesday 21st January we were treated to an amazing performance and workshop by The Mighty Zulu Nation! This was linked to our topic entitled 'Music from Around the World'. We had a brilliant day where we watched the dancers and singers perform to the whole school. Following this some children were invited to join in and take part with some dancing in front of the rest of the school. Later in the day we took part in a workshop where we learnt a routine. To conclude our day we performed to our audience The Mighty Zulu Nation. The Mighty Zulu Nation., some of the parents got the opportunity to watch too! We can still remember what we learnt and are looking forward to seeing them on the television later this year!

Advent and The Nativity

Posted 13/12/2013

During December Year One made our Advent Wreath. We made it as a class and following this Father Wilson blessed them all in the hall. We also made Advent Promises. Our Advent Promises help us to live like Jesus and prepare for Christmas in the best way possible. We love Advent and Christmas!

All of Key Stage One and Reception have worked together to get ready for our wonderful production of the Nativity. We performed to our parents twice and we were fabulous on both occasions! We showed our musical talents by playing instruments and more of our dramatic side by acting and also dancing. We are stars! Happy Christmas everyoDaniel and Edi-May starting to create our wreath.Daniel and Edi-May starting to create our wreath.Key Stage One and Reception ready to perform to the Junior Classes.Key Stage One and Reception ready to perform to the Junior Classes.ne!

Felicity's fabulous toy!Felicity's fabulous toy!

This half term we have all been making toys. We have used recycable materials to create our favourite toy. As a class we talked about what we did well and how we could improve them. Afterwards, we painted them and shared them with the rest of the class. As we were talking about labels and captions in Literacy we then displayed our toys with our own labels and captions. Come and take a look!

Autumn in Year 1

Posted 18/10/2013

During the first half of the Autumn term we have enjoyed learning about toys. We have compared toys that we play with to toys that our parents used to have. We have found out how teddy bears are made and more excitingly we had an amazing 'Super Hero Day'! In class we have made our own toys from different materials.

We have spent a lot of time writi ng recounts, labels ands captions. Ask us what we have learnt! Did you know that we are brilliant at our number bonds? We practice them everyday, just like our spellings.

God's world is what we have spent a lot of time talking about too. We know that God made us and he loves us. Ask us why a rainbow is important.

You won't believe how independent we are becoming now that we have been in Year 1 for half a term! We are looking forward to our Nativity and learning all about important British events after half term.
